TikTok and AI content

The 2 questions marketers ask about TikTok, each answered from TikTok's own policy rather than someone's summary of it.

Does TikTok require an AI label?

Yes when it looks real, and TikTok often applies the label before you do:

  • Required: TikTok says it requires creators to label AIGC that shows realistic-appearing scenes or people.
  • Automatic: anything made with TikTok AI effects is labeled by TikTok itself.
  • Automatic: TikTok reads C2PA Content Credentials, so a file that carries them, like those from Firefly or ChatGPT, can trigger TikTok’s label.
  • Encouraged but not required: content that is AI-made or heavily AI-edited without looking realistic.
What this means for marketers

Realistic AIGC has to carry the label. Worth knowing that the metadata does this on its own for files from tools that sign their output, so the toggle is usually confirming a label TikTok was going to apply anyway.

Is fully AI content allowed on TikTok?

Allowed, with limits. It has to be labeled when realistic, and the community guidelines still bar synthetic media that misleads about real people or events.

What this means for marketers

Allowed, with the labeling rule attached. Content that fakes a real person or event is what gets pulled.
