Google Ads and AI content
The question marketers ask about Google Ads, each answered from Google Ads's own policy rather than someone's summary of it.

Do Google ads need an AI label?
In some places, yes, and Google may add one for you:
- Google says rules in the EU, India, and New York require certain ads with AI-generated or AI-edited assets to be labeled.
- Since July 2026 you can put the label in the creative itself, or use Google’s AI label setting across Google Ads, Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager 360, Merchant Center, and Ads Editor.
- Any asset you mark as AI shows a disclosure in the ad’s "How this ad was made" panel, worldwide. Campaigns aimed at the EU, India, or New York also get a visible overlay on the ad.
- Google may label assets itself, for example where Google is legally required to, or when its own AI tools made them. Those labels cannot be removed.
- Election ads still have their own disclosure checkbox for synthetic content.
What this means for marketers
Required where the law requires it, and Google says plainly that its setting "doesn’t guarantee compliance with specific regulations." Worth considering labeling by where the ad runs, not by which tool made it.
