Do you have to disclose AI-generated books on Amazon KDP?

Yes, to Amazon, every time you publish or republish:

  • KDP’s content guidelines: "We require you to inform us of AI-generated content (text, images, or translations) when you publish a new book or make edits to and republish an existing book through KDP."
  • AI books are allowed, but the risk is yours: "You are responsible for verifying that all AI-generated and/or AI-assisted content adheres to all content guidelines, including by complying with all applicable intellectual property rights."
  • KDP separates AI-generated from AI-assisted content, and the disclosure requirement is written for AI-generated content.
  • Enforcement uses "a combination of machine learning, automation, and dedicated teams of human reviewers."
What this means for marketers

Tell KDP at upload, and again on every republish. Worth knowing the liability for the content, copyright included, stays with you regardless of which tool wrote it.
